Details of the incident : Our VW Jetta station wagon with tinted windows was parked on a dead-end cul-de-sac (Sotelo Way) in Novato, CA. Our first mistake was to leave our gear in the car while we accompanied a friend and his two children to a bicycle park a few miles away for less than an hour. It happened at dusk, sometime between 4:10 and 5:05 PM. All our gear was covered with a blanket but when we returned, most of our gear, except for a tripod, a green screen and a case with LED light, had been taken, as well as a box full of Christmas presents for our friends and relatives. It was like the Grinch had ripped off Santa's sleigh. It was a very nauseating feeling and a sleepless next few nights. Over $25K of our gear was stolen and we then learned that our Hiscox insurance policy only covered us "off premises" for $10K. This was an additional kick in the stomach as we thought we'd been covered for more. Certainly a cautionary tale for all video production people. The worst nightmare for video people is that your equipment would be stolen the night before a shoot and that nightmare unfortunately came true. Non-serialized items also stollen include Cool rig, Shotgun mic, Sennheiser EK100 wireless mic system, Rigid Industries Series 6 LED panels and LTM pepper 350.
